Resumo


Runway orientation is one of the key issues for airport infrastructure designers. Probably the oldest, the most basic one. It can be considered the fundamental characteristic of an airport, it can define the runway configuration and orientation. It is known that the adverse effects of crosswind are minimized by always landing and taking off in the opposite direction of the wind. Thus, the orientation will depend on the component of wind speed, frequency and direction, so that the runway has at least 95% of operability. Therefore, so that an airport can assertively achieve this goal
and guarantee the operational safety of take-off and landing movements, it is important that the runway design has the best orientation based on local weather conditions, in addition to geographic conditions. To validate the study, existing airports with a high crosswind index will be evaluated, in order to present non-conformities in the applied and/or estimated standard models.
