Resumo

This paper analyzes how electric Vertical Take-off and Landing vehicles (eVTOLs) can be deployed in order to enable a higher flow of passenger connections between the two main airports serving the city of São Paulo. We analyze both situations in which an airport change is required in order to allow the continuity of the passenger journey towards his or her final destination, and situations in which the passenger could stay at the arrival airport, but the alternative airport offers better connecting timings, thus allowing a reduced total travel duration. We identify times of arrival and departure in terms of 144 banks of 10 minutes each spread through the 1440 minutes of the day and set three distinct profiles for connection: Arrojado (“Bold”), Realista (“Realistic”) and Precavido (“Cautious”). These profiles represent increasingly minimum timings for connecting between the airports. In this Short Paper, we solely deal with the flow that emerges from the Southern region of Brazil and we also restrict analysis to the flow that goes from São Paulo – Guarulhos (SBGR) to São Paulo – Congonhas (SBSP) airports, but not the reverse. Upon the submission of the Full Paper we will include reverse traffic into the analysis. We can find that a total of 213 connections are made possible with the deployment of eVTOLs. We also compute preliminary data suggesting that there exists a 57% correlation between the arrival of scheduled flights and the suggested departure time of eVTOLs, and that such correlation monotonically increases as operation moves from Bold to Cautious profiles, what suggests some kind of trade-off between the stress level of the passenger (being in a rush for transferring him or herself from one airport to another) and the stress level on airport and airspace systems.
